3D Children’s Society receives $27,500 donation from local dealerships

The 3D Children’s Society received one of their largest donations ever this past weekend.

Back in late September, various dealerships from the Grande Prairie Auto Group got together and decided to donate $100 from every sale in the month of October to the charity.

This past weekend, the Children’s Society was presented with a cheque for $27,500. The money will go towards supporting kids in the three local school divisions to help them travel to children’s hospitals and purchase any necessary medical equipment.

Darren Foley, the Chair of the 3D Children’s Society, says the organization is very grateful for the generous donation at a time like this.

“We’re basically dealing just like every other charity, we are dealing with the same fall out because of COVID. Everybody is dealing with the same thing, trying to fundraise, and how do you fundraise? Your options are pretty limited, so when businesses get together like they did for this, it’s pretty hard to say no.”

“We tried to spread that word as much as we could, and it turned out it worked pretty well. To have them come and see us to make that happen is just an enormous shot in the arm for us.”

Foley adds that this event was really the first time they’ve been able to fundraise since last year’s Children’s Society Gala. He says that they’re looking at getting things back on track in 2021.

“We were kind of lucky, before COVID hit we had our gala last year where Ron MacLean came and did a talk with Lanny McDonald and Paul Coffey back in December, but that helped save us a little bit last year.”

“Obviously we don’t have anything planned like that this year, so you’re going to have to be creative a little bit. We’ve got a board meeting coming up and that’s what we’re going to be tabling for that meeting.”

Foley mentioned that he hopes he can get students back to volunteering in the new year, albeit, in a safe way to help raise some funds for the charity.

“We’re just going to wait and get those ideas in place. Hopefully after Christmas we’ll see our (COVID) numbers drop significantly from what they are. I’ve got some great minds on the board and we’ll put our heads together and see what we can come up with.”
