Storm announce 2020-21 leadership group

Nov 12, 2020 | 5:27 PM

On the eve of the start of the AJHL regular season, the Grande Prairie Storm have announced their leadership group for 2020-21.

Storm Head Coach and General Manager Mike Vandekamp announced on Thursday that Dan McIntyre has been named the team’s captain.

McIntyre is from the Ottawa area and spent the last two seasons of his junior hockey career playing under Vandekamp for the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

McIntyre tells EverythingGP that he hasn’t worn a letter since he played U18 hockey back in Ottawa, but adds that he is up for the challenge.

“I think it’s going to be a bit of a different experience, there’s a lot more expected out of you and more responsibilities, but I’m ready for it and excited.”

“I played with Mike for a couple of years and I had a good idea I’d be a part of the leadership group, I didn’t know what it was going to be, but I’m really happy to be a leader on this team. We’ve got a lot of guys in there that could’ve been part of the group.”

“I think every game I’m a tenacious player that doesn’t give up on pucks and doesn’t give up on the game. In the room I like to talk to the boys and be a good voice of leadership and that’s what I’m going to try and do.”

Cade Mason, Jake Cella, and Paycen Bjorklund will also serve as alternate captains for the season.

The Storm will open their season at home on Friday, November 13 against the Bonnyville Pontiacs.
