Drugs, cash seized in arrest of Grande Prairie man

Grande Prairie RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit seized drugs and cash while executing a search warrant and arresting a man wanted on a number of outstanding warrants on November 5.

Mounties located Tyrone Wiebe, a 27-year-old Grande Prairie man, at a hotel in Clairmont, and with assistance from the Police Dog Service, he was taken into custody after a short foot chase.

Wiebe was arrested on 27 outstanding warrants, which included discharging a firearm with intent.

During the arrest, officers searched Wiebe where they discovered and seized over $3,000 in Canadian currency; two shotgun shells; 50 grams of suspected methamphetamine and three grams of suspected heroin.

Upon searching his room, officers also discovered approximately 100 mL of GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate).

Following the arrest, Wiebe was charged with:

  • Resisting arrest
  • Failing to comply with release order x4
  • Breach of a weapon prohibition x2
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of heroin
  • Possession of property obtained by crime

Wiebe is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on December 9, 2020.
