Dawson Creek Walmart employee allegedly assaulted after asking customer to wear mask

Nov 26, 2020 | 9:29 AM

Dawson Creek RCMP arrested a 30-year-old man after he allegedly assaulted an employee at Walmart in the Mile Zero City, after being asked to put a face covering on, as required by the current health order in BC.

Officers were called to the Walmart on Wednesday and were informed that a patron had assaulted the employee after being asked to wear his face mask.

Police say a review of surveillance video identified the male suspect, who was located a short time later at his home and was arrested for assault and mischief. He was later released to attend court at a later date.

RCMP say the victim received minor injuries.

“Dawson Creek RCMP would like to remind the public that face masks are required in all indoor public spaces, which includes most business establishments in the Peace Region.

“While individuals may make a personal decision to not wear a face mask they must then not attend indoor public spaces.”

Police add that under the new BC health regulation, those who refuse to wear a mask in an indoor public space, exhibit abusive or belligerent behavior, or fail to comply with patron conditions or requirements may be fined up to an amount of $230.
