Two new COVID-19 cases in Grande Prairie, six more recoveries

Grande Prairie’s active COVID-19 case total dropped for a second straight day for Thursday, as there were two new cases and another six recoveries recorded for November 26.

There are now 72 active cases in the City of Grande Prairie, to go along with 385 recoveries and four deaths.

Two new outbreaks were also identified in the Swan City. Outbreaks were declared at the Rehoboth Christian Ministries Group Home and the Elders Caring Shelter Society.

There are currently 13 active cases at the Elders Caring Shelter Society. The outbreak at the Rehoboth Christian Ministries had seven cases, which are all now recovered. Alberta Health says that the reason for the delay in reporting this outbreak had to do with determining if cases were directly linked to the facility.

The County of Grande Prairie, meanwhile, saw no new cases and four recoveries for November 26. There are now 33 active cases there (creating a combined total of 105 active cases between the City and County of Grande Prairie)

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day November 26 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 461 cases (72 active, 385 recovered, four deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 166 cases (33 active, 132 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 86 cases (36 active, 49 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Six cases (one active, five recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 29 cases (one active, 28 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: Eight cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 79 cases (two active, 67 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 57 cases (three active, 49 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 44 cases (13 active, 31 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 115 cases (27 active, 88 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 51 cases (two active, 48 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 98 cases (97 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 16 cases (one active, 15 recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 67 cases (three active, 64 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 428 cases (six active, 409 recovered, 13 deaths)

The province added 1,227 new cases for Thursday following the completion of 16,284 tests, creating a positivity rate 7.5 per cent.

Hospitalizations grew beyond 400 on Thursday to 405 in Alberta, with 86 of those individuals in an ICU.

In the North Zone, there are 23 people in hospital, three of whom are in intensive care.

There were nine more deaths linked to COVID-19 for Thursday, bringing the provincial death toll to 519. The North Zone death toll held at 45 as of November 26.
