Poor Road Conditions

Grande Prairie motorists encouraged to be safe as road conditions are poor

Nov 28, 2020 | 3:01 PM

As a result of the heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures on Friday night, the Grande Prairie RCMP is warning drivers that road conditions in and around the Swan City are covered in ice and snow, and asks commuters to slow down and adjust their driving.

The RCMP asks that people take measures to improve their safety on the road, including:

  • Clearing snow from all window, mirrors and lights
  • Ensure lights are turned on
  • Reduce speed and allow for more time to slow and stop
  • Check updated weather and road reports
  • Plan for extra travel time
  • Prepare for changing road and weather condition
  • Pack blankets or winter survival kits in the car, especially when traveling out of town

Winter weather conditions can create challenges and safety risks for both drivers and pedestrians, and the RCMP ask that people be extra cautious in order to keep everyone safe.
