UPDATE: Hold and Secures lifted at Avondale, Royal Oaks schools

Nov 30, 2020 | 9:09 AM

UPDATE (11:10 a.m.): The Peace Wapiti Public School Division says the hold and secure protocols issued at Harry Balfour, Peace Wapiti Academy and the Peace Wapiti Enterprise Centre have been lifted.

“School life has returned to normal. Thank you for your patience and understanding. “

EverythingGP will provide more details on the ongoing police situation in the Avondale/Royal Oaks area when further information is made available.

Students and staff at the Harry Balfour School, Peace Wapiti Academy and Peace Wapiti Enterprise Centre were put in a ‘Hold and Secure’ Monday morning, as RCMP responded to a situation in the area.

The buses carrying students were unloaded quickly, and all the kids were safely brought into the schools.

Under the Hold and Secure, school activities continue as usual inside the building, while an unrelated incident or threat in close proximity of the school is dealt with. Those incidents could include nearby police activity or a threatening animal in the area.

Access to and from the school is restricted and carefully monitored under the Secure and Hold until the situation has ended and the RCMP advise the Principal to unlock the school.

There is a heavy police presence in the Avondale and Royal Oaks areas, and the RCMP asks the public to remain in their homes and businesses until the situation is resolved.
