COVID-19 case confirmed at Harry Balfour School

Dec 2, 2020 | 12:13 PM

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division says a case of COVID-19 has been confirmed at Harry Balfour School in Grande Prairie.

The division says in a news release issued Wednesday that families and staff were notified of the case on Tuesday. They add that out of respect for the individual, and following AHS guidelines, no other details will be shared about this case.

“PWPSD and HBS wish the individual a safe and speedy recovery, and will continue to work closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff.”

The school remains open for in-person learning for Grades K-6 students who have not been identified as a close contact. Grades 7 and 8 students at the school are already attending classes at-home, following new public health measures issued by the province on November 24.

As of November 30 there are two schools listed under an AHS outbreak “watch” status, those being Charles Spencer High School and St. John Paul II. A watch status is issued when five or more cases have been identified in the school setting over a 14-day period.

All students at those two schools are now attending classes at-home, as all Grade 7 to 12 students in the province will be learning virtually until January 11.

An outbreak has also been announced at St Catherine School, where two or more cases have been identified.
