Grande Prairie records fifth death from COVID-19

One more person has died in the City of Grande Prairie from COVID-19. Alberta Health says the person who died was a woman in her 90’s and is linked to the Grande Prairie Care Centre. That marks five deaths linked to COVID-19 in the city since the start of the pandemic in March.

Grande Prairie now has 81 active cases of COVID-19 to go along with 443 recoveries and five deaths. Nine new cases have been found since yesterday, but total active cases are down by 5 and recoveries are up by 13.

The County of Grande Prairie has four new cases. The active case count is up by three to 20, with recoveries up one to 163.

The combined active case count between the City and County of Grande Prairie is now 101.

Active cases are up by two in the MD of Greenview to 23, while recoveries are up one to 79.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day December 5 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 529 cases (81 active, 443 recovered, five deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 184 cases (20 active, 163 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 103 cases (23 active, 79 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Seven cases (one active, six recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 31 cases (two active, 29 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: Eight cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 80 cases (one active, 69 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 70 cases (15 active, 50 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 75 cases (31 active, 44 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 148 cases (35 active, 113 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 53 cases (two active, 50 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 98 cases (97 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 35 cases (19 active, 16 recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 69 cases (two active, 67 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 440 cases (12 active, 415 recovered, 13 deaths)

The death in Grande Prairie is one of 19 from COVID-19 recorded in Alberta since Saturday’s update, bringing Alberta’s death toll to 615.

There are now 601 people in hospital, with 100 now in an ICU in Alberta. The number of hospitalizations is up 38 with the number in intensive care down by one.

In the North Zone, there are 26 people in the hospital with four in an ICU. The number in the hospital is the same as Saturday, but the total in intensive care is up by two.

Alberta has added 1,836 new cases since Saturday’s update after 23,435 more tests were completed. The province now has 19,484 active cases. Total recoveries province-wide stands at 48,467.
