COVID-19 outbreak announced at Rotary House, City of GP adds 15 new cases

An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at the Rotary House in Grande Prairie, as the City added 15 new cases for December 7.

Alberta Health says there are 15 active cases linked to the facility which provides shelter and supports to the street engaged population and those who are hard to house in Grande Prairie.

The 15 new cases announced in Grande Prairie came as there were five more recoveries. The city now has an active caseload of 106 as of December 7.

There were two new cases reported in the County of Grande Prairie along with one new recovery. There are 20 active cases there.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day December 7 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 562 cases (106 active, 451 recovered, five deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 186 cases (20 active, 165 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 104 cases (21 active, 82 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Seven cases (one active, six recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 31 cases (two active, 29 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: Eight cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 80 cases (one active, 69 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 73 cases (17 active, 51 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 81 cases (35 active, 46 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 157 cases (40 active, 117 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 53 cases (two active, 50 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 98 cases (97 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 41 cases (23 active, 18 recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 69 cases (two active, 67 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 447 cases (19 active, 415 recovered, 13 deaths)

Alberta added 1,727 new cases for December 7 following the completion of 19,109 tests.

The new cases come as the province announced stricter public health measures aimed to curb the sharp rise in new COVID-19 cases.

Hospitalizations now sit at 654 in Alberta with 112 of those people in an ICU. In the North Zone, there are 31 people in hospital, four of whom are in intensive care.

There were nine new deaths linked to COVID-19 reported Tuesday. 640 Albertans have now died from COVID-19 complications.
