Grande Prairie business donates $18,000 to food bank from plexiglass sales

Standard Auto Glass in Grande Prairie has donated $18,000 from their sales of plexiglass to the Grande Prairie Food Bank.

Back in May, the company announced that it would donate $25 to the food bank from every piece of plexiglass shield sold.

Owner Rob Kossman said that he really wanted to help out the community in what has been a really trying time.

“We started building plexiglass shields there in March when COVID started and we decided to help out the community while we’re trying to protect everyone from COVID.”

He says when COVID hit, it became apparent that items like plexiglass shields were going to be in high demand, which is part of the reason why Kossman felt it was important to give back to the community.

When he announced they would donate $25 from every shield sold, he says the community came through and showed its support.

“We had a lot of people call us and thank us. We even had a couple of people drop off donations without even getting the plexiglass, which we really appreciated.”

Kossman said that since the pandemic began in March, they’ve sold more plexiglass in the last nine months than they’ve previously sold in 25 years combined.

Kossman tells EverythingGP that plexiglass sales have slowed over the last several months. While the donation has been made to the Salvation Army, he added that if the demand for plexiglass increases again, they’ll look at doing something again for charity.
