Dec 9, 2020 | 12:08 PM

A Fairview resident has been charged in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at a retail store in the town over the weekend.

On Saturday, December 5, Fairview RCMP were called to the reported armed robbery at the Jewellery Box and Giftware store in Fairview at around 11 a.m.

Authorities say a male suspect entered the store brandishing what looked like a handgun and demanded money. The suspect fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and was not immediately located.

The employees involved in the incident did not sustain any physical injuries.

Police continued their investigation into the incident, where they located and arrested 23-year-old Chance Banner on December 7. Banner has been charged with:

  • Robbery with a firearm (x2)
  • Assault with a weapon (x2)
  • Pointing a firearm (x2)
  • Possess weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm
  • Fail to comply with conditions (x2)

The RCMP say it was information from the public that led to Banner’s arrest.

“This occurrence was solved quickly thanks to information provided by the general public” said Corporal Sebastien Fleury of the Fairview RCMP.

“Community engagement and public collaboration with the RCMP goes a long way towards keeping our community safe and the RCMP appreciates that.”

Following a judicial hearing, Banner did not speak to bail and is scheduled to appear in Fairview Provincial Court on Wednesday.
