NEW YEAR'S EVE

City of Grande Prairie unveils New Year’s Eve plans

Dec 14, 2020 | 5:37 PM

The City of Grande Prairie has unveiled its New Year’s Eve plans.

This year’s event will be distanced because of COVID-19, however, will still allow residents to have some fun while ringing in 2021.

“Our New Year’s Eve will start with our New Year’s Eve activity sheet, which is a countdown to 2021,” said Hayley Kramps, with the City. “It’s got a bunch of free different social distancing ideas such as posting pictures of your home, gingerbread displays, and ice carvings as well.”

According to Kramps, the City is also looking to give prizes to those who participate. She says that more information on the prizes will be released closer to the new year.

There will also be a dual fireworks show at the CKC East Football Field and Muskoseepi Reservoir. Kramps tells EverythingGP that the fireworks show will look very similar to how they had the Canada Day fireworks.

“We will be using aerial fireworks, so wherever you park in the surrounding areas in the two locations, you will be able to see them. They should go up quite high so you shouldn’t be able to miss them.”

For those attending the firework display, there will be no public washrooms available at either facility. All residents attending the event are asked to remain inside their vehicles once they’ve arrived for the fireworks show.

Kramps says that with the heightened restrictions, there will be more city staff enforcing the rules to make sure that residents are staying within their cohort.

“We are really excited to be able to do this again,” said Kramps “We are really excited to have a community excited for it.”
