Muskoseepi skating pond moved to private bookings only starting Monday

Dec 14, 2020 | 11:37 AM

With new public health restrictions and the continued popularity of the Muskoseepi Park skating pond, the City of Grande Prairie is moving to only allow private bookings to use the pond, effective Monday.

The City says one-hour time slots can be booked, free of charge, by calling 780-538-0451, or through the City’s website. Time slots will range from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the pavilion open for washroom access during those times.

“City staff will be checking people in at the pond every hour, monitoring capacity, and accepting drop-ins if capacity allows,” reads a release from the City.

No more than 50 people are permitted on the pond at one time, and bookings can only be made for individuals or groups within the same household. All users must maintain at least a six-foot physical distance from other households while skating.

“The City recognizes and encourages the value of outdoor recreation and staying active during the winter while reminding all residents that provincial health regulations must be adhered to for the health and safety of our whole community.”

They also remind users that hockey is not allowed to be played on the pond.

Restrictions that were brought in by the provincial government on December 8 brought about a ban on all social gatherings, both indoors and outdoors, in Alberta for at least four weeks.
