Grande Prairie adds seven new COVID-19 cases, eight recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added seven new cases of COVID-19 alongside eight more recoveries, bringing the City’s active case total to 125 as of the end of day December 17.

The County of Grande Prairie added no new cases and two more recoveries, lowering the active case total there to 20 as of the same time.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day December 17 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 654 cases (125 active, 522 recovered, seven deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 206 cases (20 active, 185 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 127 cases (26 active, 100 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Seven cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 32 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: Nine cases (one active, eight recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 86 cases (six active, 70 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 106 cases (35 active, 66 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 93 cases (13 active, 80 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 173 cases (23 active, 151 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 57 cases (four active, 52 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 98 cases (97 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 74 cases (31 active, 43 recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 69 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 467 cases (22 active, 431 recovered, 14 deaths)

The province added 1,413 new cases for December 17 after 19,538 tests were completed, creating a provincial positivity rate of 7.2 per cent.

Chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, also announced 25 newly reported deaths in the province linked to COVID-19. That brings Alberta’s COVID-19 death toll to 815.

Hospitalizations decreased by four in Alberta to 759 as of the end of day Thursday, with 141 of those individuals in an ICU.

In the North Zone, 33 people are in hospital, seven of whom are in an ICU.
