AJHL looking for path to return to play

The Alberta Junior Hockey League wants to get back on the ice.

The league’s board of governors met on Friday to discuss the future of the current season, which the AJHL was actually able to drop the puck on earlier this fall.

Approximately 80 games were played before government restrictions became too much for them to continue.

With existing restrictions, a timeline to get back on the ice won’t be known until January, Alberta’s Jr. ‘A’ league anticipates.

“Our priority is to exhaust all options in order to have some form of a season and do everything we can do to benefit our athletes, teams and League through development and game play,” says AJHL Commissioner Ryan Bartoshyk.

“We will continue to lean on the valuable relationships built over the last nine months in order to determine a pathway to first safely return to our communities and facilities and then to competition.”

The AJHL continues to work with the province on an updated plan so teams can return to play.

It officially announced games would pause on Nov. 23. Teams were playing home-and-home series each weekend once the regular season began on Nov. 13. An exhibition schedule also ran from Oct. 9-Nov. 8.

To this point, the Grande Prairie Storm sit with a record of 2-1-1.
