Grande Prairie frontline health workers to receive doses of COVID-19 vaccine

Dec 22, 2020 | 3:10 PM

Alberta has received another shipment of the Pfizer vaccine, and some of the new doses will be administered to healthcare and long-term care workers in Grande Prairie.

Of the 25,350 doses of the vaccine acquired by the province, 975 will be distributed to front-line workers in Grande Prairie.

Similarly, 975 doses will also be sent to the communities of Brooks, Camrose, Drumheller, Edson Fort McMurray, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Pincher Creek and St.Paul. Edmonton and Calgary will each receive another 6,825 doses of the vaccine, while Red Deer will receive 1,950.

“This is just the beginning of immunization in our province – but we’re off to a strong start,” says Premier Jason Kenney. “We have been ready to receive and administer vaccine since day one – and we will be ready to safely and quickly distribute all future doses into the arms of Albertans.”

Alberta’s first shipment of the Pfizer vaccine, which consisted of 3,900 doses, was delivered on December 14 and has resulted in the immunization of 3,074 health-care workers, so far.

This round of the Pfizer vaccine will be prioritized for respiratory therapists, intensive care physicians and staff, and long term and designated supportive living facility workers.

“As more vaccines arrive in our province in the coming weeks and months, 2021 promises to be a year filled with hope and relief for Albertans who wish to be immunized against COVID-19,” says Tyler Shandro, Alberta’s Minister of Health.

“Until we receive enough doses, remember to follow the health measures in place to protect you, your community and our health-care system.”
