High Prairie man killed in collision along Highway 49

Dec 22, 2020 | 9:28 AM

A man from High Prairie has died following a collision on Highway 49, north of the hamlet of Guy Monday night.

McLennan RCMP say they, along with Fire and EMS services, were called to the scene along Highway 49 between Township Roads 770 and 772 at around 9:30 p.m. on December 21.

An initial investigation into the collision suggests a pick-up truck travelling south entered the northbound lane, colliding with a portion of another pick-up with a flat deck that was travelling north. Police say the driver of the northbound pick-up was unable to avoid the southbound pick-up in time to avoid the collision.

As a result, the driver of the southbound truck, a 30-year-old man from High Prairie, was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering severe injuries.

The driver of the northbound truck was assessed by EMS at the scene.

An RCMP Collision Analyst examined the scene throughout the night while a portion of the highway remain closed until 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The highway has since fully reopened.

Authorities say the collision remains under investigation.
