Active COVID-19 cases in Alberta drops while Grande Prairie records seven new cases, six recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie saw seven new cases of COVID-19 and six recoveries on December 22, bringing the total cases to 129 active, 574 recovered and seven deaths.

The County, meanwhile, saw one new case and one recovery to stay at 24 active, with 192 recoveries and one death. The Municipal District of Greenview also saw one new case and one recovery, and now has 29 active cases with 104 recoveries and one death.

The new figures come as 1,301 new cases were recorded across Alberta, meaning the active COVID-19 cases in the province now total 17,821. That figure is lower than the one recorded on Tuesday, when the active case count was recorded at 18,311.

In the North Zone, there are now 1,092 active and 5,089 recovered cases of COVID-19.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day December 22 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 710 cases (129 active, 574 recovered, seven deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 217 cases (24 active, 192 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 134 cases (29 active, 104 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Seven cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 33 cases (one active, 32 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: Nine cases (one active, eight recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 89 cases (nine active, 70 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 136 cases (57 active, 74 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 95 cases (10 active, 85 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 176 cases (14 active, 162 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 58 cases (four active, 53 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 99 cases (one active, 97 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 85 cases (31 active, 54 recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 69 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 475 cases (17 active, 444 recovered, 14 deaths)

Across the province, hospitalizations rose to 821, an increase of 19 from the day before. Of those individuals, 146 are in intensive care, which is six fewer than reported the previous day.

In the North Zone, hospitalizations rose to 39, while ICU patients decreased to four.

The province also announced 19 new deaths linked to the novel coronavirus, bringing Alberta’s COVID-19 death toll up to 890. To date, 63 people in the North Zone have died from COVID-19.

Over the past 24 hours 19,222 tests were performed, and to date, 2,690,432 COVID-19 tests have been completed in Alberta.
