Pursuit and police car ramming leads to numerous charges for 40-year-old man

A 40-year-old man has a January 4th court appearance after Beaverlodge RCMP was involved in an incident that involved a pursuit, a police car-ramming, and deployment of a police dog.

Just before 11 am on December 24th, RCMP spotted Angus Byron Ferguson on the Horse Lake First Nation.

Ferguson, who was already wanted on 16 outstanding charges – including assaulting a police officer with a weapon – took off as soon as he saw police and headed northbound toward Highway 43.

Members from the Grande Prairie and Spirit River detachments joined in the pursuit, which eventually moved to a dead-end lease site road near Spirit River. Ferguson is alleged to have rammed several police vehicles before fleeing onto Highway 49, where his truck was finally forced off the road.

Ferguson managed to escape his truck and allegedly tried to steal a civilian vehicle without success. He was eventually tracked down by a police dog before being taken to the QE2 hospital for treatment and then taken into custody.

Ferguson now faces an additional 13 charges as a result of this incident, including flight from police and four counts of assault on a police officer with a weapon.

This is on top of the 16 charges that he was originally wanted for.

RCMP say no officers were injured during the event, but three police cars were damaged substantially.
