Fairview man charged following stolen vehicle pursuit near St. Albert

Jan 5, 2021 | 12:32 PM

St. Albert RCMP have charged three people following a stolen vehicle investigation.

On December 21 at 12:30 a.m., police were asked by the Edmonton Police Services Air 1 helicopter to assist with a stolen truck heading into the St. Albert area.

RCMP spotted the truck going north on Highway 2, just south of the Highway 47 exit ramp.

The RCMP activated emergency equipment on the road and attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the truck kept moving and did not stop.

Mounties would then try to stop the truck again at a different location not far away, but the attempt failed and the vehicle got away.

The failed stop attempts resulted in the RCMP calling off the pursuit of the truck because they felt it would be too dangerous to the public.

Air 1 continued to follow the truck throughout its travels after the RCMP gave up on the pursuit. The vehicle kept driving and continued to disobey traffic laws.

Eventually, Air 1 located the location of the truck near Morinville and the Morinville RCMP were able to successfully deploy a deflation device, helping the vehicle come to a stop just over a mile later.

Three people inside the truck tried to run away but police were able to arrest all of them shortly after their attempted getaway.

A search of the truck turned up the following items:

  • Loaded handgun with ammunition
  • Numerous license plates (some stolen)
  • Personal identification not belonging to the three individuals arrested
  • Over $10,000 in Canadian Currency
  • Illegal drugs believed to be Methamphetamine
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Numerous cell phones

Thirty-seven-year-old Mitchell Elmore of Fairview, 36-year-old Amy Actimichuk from St. Albert and 45-year-old Kurt Heitrich of Edmonton all face the following charges.

  • Possession of a Loaded Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Flight From Police
  • Dangerous Driving
  • Fail to Comply with Release Conditions
  • Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000
  • Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

Actimichuk and Heitrich were released from custody with a cash deposit and conditions. They are scheduled to appear in St. Albert Provincial Court on January 25.

Elmore has been remanded into custody. He is also scheduled to appear in St. Albert Provincial Court on January 25.
