City of Grande Prairie sees eight new COVID-19 cases, 10 recoveries

There were eight new cases of COVID-19 and 10 more recoveries identified for Wednesday, January 6, bringing the active case total in the City to 128.

There were also two new cases recorded in the County of Grande Prairie for Wednesday, as well, along with two more recoveries. There remains 33 active cases there.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day January 6 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 861 cases (128 active, 724 recovered, nine deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 255 cases (33 active, 222 recovered, two deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 177 cases (42 active, 134 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Seven cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 40 cases (three active, 37 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 13 cases (four active, nine recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 94 cases (six active, 78 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 286 cases (130 active, 150 recovered, six deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 125 cases (27 active, 98 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 252 cases (70 active, 182 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 59 cases (one active, 57 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 99 cases (98 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 160 cases (65 active, 95 recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 70 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 496 cases (19 active, 462 recovered, 15 deaths)

As for the province, there were a total of 968 new cases recorded on Wednesday, following 14,833 tests being completed. That created a positivity rate of 6.4 per cent.

With that, Premier Jason Kenney said Thursday that average new daily cases and positivity rates, as well as hospitalizations, remain high in Alberta, which is why he announced an extension of at least two weeks for all current public health restrictions.

However, hospitalizations in the province did decrease by 40 on Wednesday, going from 911 to 871. ICU admissions decreased by two to 139.

In the North Zone, 64 people are in hospital, seven of whom are in an ICU.

Alberta Health also reported 24 new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta, bringing the province’s death toll to 1,217.
