GATHERING CONTRAVENED CURRENT GUIDELINES

Jan 7, 2021 | 1:16 PM

RCMP has charged the organizer of a Pro-Trump rally in downtown Red Deer on Wednesday for violating the province’s Public Health Act.

It was at about noon when City Mounties were called to Ross Street and 49 Avenue near City Hall Park where approximately 30 individuals were gathered to demonstrate against the U.S. election results. Police say the event concluded at around 3 p.m.

“The Red Deer RCMP Downtown Patrol Unit responded to the event to monitor and conduct enforcement,” reads a media release. “The gathering was found to be in contravention of current public health guidelines and the group organizer was subsequently charged under the Public Health Act.”

Police did not release the name of the person who was charged but say they are scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court on April 28.
