Grande Prairie adds 27 new COVID-19 cases, six recoveries

The Province of Alberta reported 1,183 new cases of COVID-19 for Thursday, January 7. There are now 13,628 active cases of COVID-19 province-wide.

The City of Grande Prairie added 27 new cases for Thursday, one of the largest single-day increases the city has seen since the pandemic began. There were also six recoveries. Currently, the Swan City has 149 active cases of COVID-19.

The County of Grande Prairie also saw a large increase in cases, as it recorded 12 new infections and saw three recoveries. There are 40 active cases in the County.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day January 7 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 888 cases (149 active, 730 recovered, nine deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 267 cases (40 active, 225 recovered, two deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 188 cases (51 active, 136 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Seven cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 40 cases (three active, 37 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (five active, nine recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 94 cases (five active, 79 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 298 cases (132 active, 160 recovered, six deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 127 cases (28 active, 99 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 273 cases (89 active, 184 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 59 cases (one active, 57 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 99 cases (98 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 164 cases (67 active, 97 recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 70 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 498 cases (21 active, 462 recovered, 15 deaths)

There were 24 more deaths announced as a result of COVID-19 in Alberta, bringing the provinces COVID-19 death toll to 1,241.

For the second straight day, hospitalizations across the province dropped from 871 to 851, while ICU patients also dropped from 139 to 135.

There were 16,765 tests completed over the last 24 hours, resulting in a seven per cent test positivity rate.
