First meeting of 2021 for Grande Praire City Council today

Jan 11, 2021 | 6:00 AM

Grande Prairie City Council meets today.

Council’s first meeting of 2021 will also mark the first for Jackie Clayton as Interim Mayor.

Clayton was picked to replace Bill Given by her council colleagues last week.

Items on the agenda include a verbal discussion on the face covering bylaw.

There are also some proposed changes to the Use of Public Lands Bylaw, meant to, in the city’s words, “increase the tools available to address unlawful uses of public lands.”

This would allow the immediate removal of tent cities, other temporary living quarters, recreational vehicles and the like from public land. It would also allow the city to sell anything like an r.v. that is seized to recover some of the cost of having it removed.

The Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection will also talk to council about its plans for 2021.

The meeting will start at 3 p.m.
