UPDATE: The wind warning has been lifted in the Grande Prairie-Beaverlodge-Valleyview forecast area.

A wind warning has been issued for the Grande Prairie area Monday afternoon.

The warning is in effect for the Beaverlodge and Valleyview area, as well.

The warning was issued as the wind quickly picked up in the Swan City earlier Monday afternoon. Wind speeds of 95 km/h with gusts registering 118 km/h were picked up by Environment Canada at the Grande Prairie Airport as of 3 p.m.

The gusts were powerful enough to knock down a street light post in Clairmont along Highway 2 and 84 Avenue, and even lift the roof shingles off a house in the Summit neighbourhood.
