Seven new COVID-19 cases, nine recoveries in City of Grande Prairie

There were seven new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the City of Grande Prairie for January 11 alongside nine more recoveries. This brings the active case total in the Swan City down to 157 as of the end of day Monday.

Five new cases and two more recoveries from COVID-19 were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie. There are now 44 active cases there.

Elsewhere in the Peace Region, cases in the Big Lakes County area continued to climb with 16 new ones identified on Monday. There are now 151 active cases there.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day January 11 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 927 cases (157 active, 759 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 279 cases (44 active, 233 recovered, two deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 219 cases (77 active, 141 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Seven cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 42 cases (five active, 37 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (five active, nine recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 94 cases (three active, 81 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 352 cases (151 active, 195 recovered, six deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 142 cases (39 active, 103 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 288 cases (89 active, 199 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 55 cases (one active, 53 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 105 cases (one active, 103 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 186 cases (64 active, 122 recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 71 cases (one active, 70 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 505 cases (28 active, 462 recovered, 15 deaths)

A total of 652 new cases were confirmed in Alberta on Monday following the completion of 9,336 tests. That creates a test positivity rate of 6.9 per cent.

Hospitalizations increased by eight in Alberta to 819 by the end of day Monday, with 132 of those people in an ICU.

In the North Zone, 68 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, eight of whom have been admitted into intensive care.

A provincial record of 38 deaths linked to COVID-19 were announced on Tuesday, bringing the province’s death toll to 1,345. A total of 79 people from northern Alberta have died from COVID-19 complications.

There have now been 52,318 doses of vaccine administered in Alberta, an increase of 5,527 on Monday.
