Counterfeiting charges laid following investigation into theft from ATM

An investigation by Grande Prairie RCMP into the theft of money from an ATM in the Swan City has led to the arrest of two people on counterfeiting charges.

The investigation was opened on January 5, 2021, when money was stolen from an ATM of a local business. The investigation led to the RCMP executing search warrants at two Grande Prairie residences, where officers discovered and seized:

  • Counterfeit Canadian and American Currency
  • Stolen identity documents, including SIN card and bank cards
  • Fraudulently produced driver’s license and firearms possession and acquisition license
  • Equipment used to fraudulently produce identity documents, including templates for said documents

Through the investigation, the RCMP arrested 34 year-old Kodie Letendre and 30 year-old Veronica Rennie of Grande Prairie. They have both been charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime (x3)
  • Possession of forged document
  • Possession of instruments for making forged documents
  • Illegal possession of Government documents
  • Theft of credit card
  • Making counterfeit money
  • Having instruments for counterfeiting

Along with these charged, Rennie also faces one count of failing to comply with an undertaking.

Both Letendre and Rennie are scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on January 27.

Through this investigation, the RCMP have identified five victims, and their stolen property has been recovered. Further victims may be identified as the investigation continues.
