Grande Prairie adds 20 new COVID-19 cases, 12 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie saw 20 new cases of COVID-19 recorded for Tuesday, January 12 alongside 12 more recoveries, which brings the number of active cases in the Swan City to 165.

For yesterday, the County of Grande Prairie added six new cases and two more recoveries. The active case total increased by four on Tuesday to 48.

In the MD of Greenview, nine new cases were recorded for January 12 along with two recoveries. There are now 84 active cases in that region, 64 of which are in the Valleyview area and 11 of which are in the Fox Creek area.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day January 12 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 947 cases (165 active, 771 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 285 cases (48 active, 235 recovered, two deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 228 cases (84 active, 143 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Seven cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 42 cases (four active, 38 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (five active, nine recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 94 cases (two active, 82 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 367 cases (163 active, 198 recovered, six deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 145 cases (37 active, 108 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 296 cases (85 active, 211 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 55 cases (one active, 53 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 105 cases (one active, 103 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 191 cases (66 active, 125 recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 70 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 505 cases (28 active, 462 recovered, 15 deaths)

Alberta added 875 new cases for Tuesday after over 16,000 tests were completed, resulting in a positivity rate of 5.3 per cent.

Hospitalizations increased in the province to 820 by the end of day Tuesday, with ICU admissions now sitting at 137.

Twenty-three more fatalities linked to COVID-19 were announced on Wednesday. There have now been 1,368 recorded deaths in Alberta from COVID-19 complications.

There have now been 58,144 doses of vaccine administered in Alberta, an increase of 5,826 on Tuesday.
