City and Chamber team up to offer free skill development workshops to businesses

The City of Grande Prairie and Grande Prairie Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to offer skill development workshops to local businesses.

The workshops will take place once a week and covers topics such as photography tips and tricks, help with running programs such as Google My Business and other social media practices.

Tanya Oliver with the Chamber of Commerce says they will look to add more workshops as the partnership continues.

“We have a variety of topics already lined up and we’re looking to add more topics as we think of them or as we receive suggestions from the participants. It’s just the beginning of what we’re looking to offer to business.“

Workshops such as the photography one will help businesses learn how to better promote their items and hopefully draw more attention to their business online.

Oliver tells EverythingGP that a course like this is important to offer, as social media plays such a major role in business.

“We all have a high-quality camera in our pockets now and photos are such a powerful tool to enhance your brand. It always helps to have high-quality photos, and having those of your own services is very valuable.”

With pandemic rules currently in place, Oliver mentioned now was the right time for the City and Chamber of Commerce to team up to offer these programs.

“Partnering with the City on this initiative is important to us, with the reach out that they’ve been doing with the business community, it’s just really a way for us to act on the needs of the business community. Everything is virtual right now, so we really just want to give bite-sized bits of actionable items for people and now is the time for that.”

The workshops run weekly from January 28 to March 4. The only week there won’t be a workshop is the week of February 18, where the focus will be shifted on the Growing the North Conference.

Those interested in signing up for the courses can do so at the Chamber of Commerce website. If you’re unable to make it on time for the workshops, they’ll be uploaded to the City of Grande Prairie’s YouTube channel so people can watch at their convenience.

• Food Photography 101 – Chris Beauchamp

Thursday, March 4 – 10:00 a.m
