Chromebooks now available for rental at Grande Prairie Public Library

Jan 16, 2021 | 7:00 AM

Chromebooks are now available for rental at the Grande Prairie Public Library.

Anyone with a membership at the Library is eligible to loan one for up to a three week period.

“We applied on a second round of funding through the Emergency Community Support Fund grant that was being offered by the federal government, in conjunction with the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta,” explained Hailey McCullough the Head of Adult Services with the Grande Prairie Public Library.

“With the $15,000 we received with that grant, we were able to purchase 46 Chromebooks that our patrons will be able to borrow with their library card.”

McCullough tells EverythingGP she expects these Chromebooks will be loaned out by people who may not have the necessary access to computer technology, which is ever more important with the virtual requirements created by COVID-19.

“Our hope is that it will really help any resident of Grande Prairie with doing schoolwork, course work, applying on jobs, and connecting with loved ones. Basically, they can do all the things they would do at the library.”

If you’re interested in taking out a Chromebook, the library says that you must already have access to the internet at home and also recommends signing up for a Google account so you can save some time when you boot up the Chromebook.

The Chromebooks are brand new and are available for rental whenever the library is open.
