City of Grande Prairie records 13th COVID-19 fatality

The thirteenth death linked to COVID-19 has been recorded in the City of Grande Prairie.

The death was one of 15 reported by Alberta Health on Saturday, and was a female in her 50’s which occurred on January 14, and is not linked to an outbreak site. The fatality included comorbidities, according to Alberta Health.

The 15 deaths announced Saturday bring Alberta’s COVID-19 death toll to 1,417.

The death was announced as 20 new cases were recorded in the City on Friday while no recoveries were added. The City has now surpassed 200 active cases as of the end of day January 15, sitting at 206.

The 20 new cases also bring the Swan City over 1,000 total cases of COVID-19 recorded since March, 2020.

No new cases and one recovery were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie, bringing the active case total there to 57.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day January 15 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,007 cases (206 active, 788 recovered, 13 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 297 cases (57 active, 237 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 251 cases (92 active, 158 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Seven cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 42 cases (two active, 40 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (two active, 12 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 97 cases (four active, 83 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 401 cases (156 active, 239 recovered, six deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 154 cases (34 active, 120 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 319 cases (88 active, 231 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 56 cases (one active, 54 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 105 cases (one active, 103 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 202 cases (53 active, 149 recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 70 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 511 cases (32 active, 464 recovered, 15 deaths)

The province saw 717 new cases added for Friday following the completion of 12,439 tests. That creates a positivity rate of 5.8 per cent.

Hospitalizations decreased by 31 in Alberta to 765, with ICU admissions dropping to 122, a decrease of two.

In the North Zone, 74 people are in hospital with COVID-19 with five of those individuals in an ICU.

The province says 81,561 doses of vaccine have now been administered in the province, an increase of 7,451 on Friday
