Fourth COVID-19 death in the County of Grande Prairie

A man in his 70’s linked to the outbreak at the Prairie Lakes Supportive Living facility has died of COVID-19.

This is the fourth death in the County of Grande Prairie area.

Alberta Health says the death included comorbidities.

The County has had seven new cases detected since Saturday’s update. The number of active cases is down six to 51 while the number of recoveries is up 12 to 24. There has been a total of 304 active COVID-19 cases in the County of Grande Prairie.

In the City of Grande Prairie, six new cases have been found, leaving the total at 1013. The number of active cases is down 13 to 193 while the number of recoveries is up 19 to 807. The City has also had 13 deaths from COVID-19.

There are no longer any active cases in the MD of Fairview.

The number of active cases in the MD of Peace is up 11 to 99 while the number of recoveries is up one to 232. A dozen new cases have been found since Saturday’s update.

The updated totals from other municipalities in Northwestern Alberta are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,013 cases (193 active, 807 recovered, 13 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 304 cases (51 active, 249 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 259 cases (94 active, 164 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Seven cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 42 cases (two active, 40 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (two active, 12 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 97 cases (four active, 83 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 409 cases (152 active, 251 recovered, six deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 155 cases (33 active, 122 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 331 cases (99 active, 232 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 56 cases (55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 105 cases (one active, 103 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 204 cases (55 active, 149 recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 71 cases (one active, 70 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 519 cases (40 active, 464 recovered, 15 deaths)

Alberta has seen another 19 people die of COVID-19 related complications since the last update Saturday. The total is now 1,436.

There are now 738 people in the hospital with 123 of them in an ICU. Hospitalizations are down 27 while the number of people in intensive care is up one to 123.

There are 77 people in the hospital in the North Zone, with eight of them in intensive are. Both numbers are up by three from Saturday.

There have been 750 new cases found province-wide in the 11,484 tests completed for January 16. The active case total is at 12,234 while total recoveries are at 103,167.

As of January 16, 85,935 doses of vaccine had been administered.
