City of Grande Prairie records 23 recoveries from COVID-19, 13 new cases

The City of Grande Prairie added 23 more recoveries from COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, while also recording 13 new cases for Monday. That brings the City’s active case total to 180.

The County of Grande Prairie added two new cases and seven more recoveries for Monday, lowering the active case total there to 46.

Nine recoveries and no new cases were recorded in the MD of Greenview, where there are now 87 active cases. Sixty-six of the active cases are in the Valleyview area.

Another death was recorded in the North Zone, this time in the Big Lakes County area. Alberta Health says it was a woman in her 80s, not linked to an outbreak site. Comorbidities are unknown at this time. The death is the seventh to occur in the region.

The fatality was also one of 16 recorded for January 18, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,463.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day January 18 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,033 cases (180 active, 839 recovered, 14 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 307 cases (46 active, 257 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 271 cases (87 active, 183 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Seven cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 42 cases (one active, 41 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (one active, 13 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 99 cases (six active, 83 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 414 cases (134 active, 273 recovered, seven deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 157 cases (31 active, 126 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 331 cases (69 active, 262 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 56 cases (55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 105 cases (one active, 103 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 206 cases (41 active, 165 recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 71 cases (one active, 70 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 518 cases (26 active, 477 recovered, 15 deaths)

The province’s positivity rate sits at 5.5 per cent for Monday, after 456 new cases were found in Alberta following 8,258 tests being completed.

Hospitalizations increased by one on Monday to 740 in Alberta, with 119 of the individuals in an ICU.

In the North Zone, 75 people are in hospital, eight of whom are in intensive care.

Alberta Health says 92,315 doses of vaccine have now been administered as of Monday, an increase of 2,501 from the day prior.
