City of Grande Prairie adds 19 new COVID-19 cases, 14 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 19 new cases of COVID-19 for January 19 alongside 14 more recoveries, bringing the City’s active case total up to 185.

Seven new cases were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie, along with three recoveries, where there are now 50 active cases.

Six recoveries were added in the MD of Greenview while no new cases were found. There are now 81 active cases there, 63 of which are in the Valleyview area.

Two new cases were recorded in Birch Hills County, while the one active case in Saddle Hills County has now recovered.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day Tuesday are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,052 cases (185 active, 853 recovered, 14 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 314 cases (50 active, 260 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 271 cases (81 active, 189 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Nine cases (two active, seven recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 42 cases (one active, 41 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 99 cases (six active, 83 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 416 cases (119 active, 290 recovered, seven deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 157 cases (25 active, 132 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 330 cases (62 active, 268 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 56 cases (55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 105 cases (one active, 103 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 206 cases (36 active, 170 recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 72 cases (two active, 70 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 518 cases (23 active, 480 recovered, 15 deaths)

The province added 669 new cases for January 19 after 14,888 tests were completed. Chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, says the province’s positivity rate sits at about 4.5 per cent.

Twenty-one more deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported by Alberta Health on Wednesday. The province’s death toll from COVID-19 now sits at 1,484.

Hospitalizations in Alberta increased to 744 as of the end of day Tuesday, up four from the day prior. Of those in hospital, 124 people are in an ICU.

In the North Zone, 74 people are in hospital, nine of whom are in intensive care.

Dr. Hinshaw says 95,243 vaccine doses have been administered in the province, which is an increase of 2,928 from the day prior.
