Crystal Park School on COVID-19 alert, one case found at Derek Taylor School

Jan 20, 2021 | 4:34 PM

Alberta Health has listed Crystal Park School in Grande Prairie under a COVID-19 alert following two case being reported at the school, while there has also been a case reported at Derek Taylor Public School.

Alberta Health now reports alerts publicly when there have been two or more cases identified within a school setting. An outbreak is then declared after five or more cases are found in the school setting, where the disease could have been acquired or transmitted in the school.

Letters sent out by the Grande Prairie Public School Division earlier this week, the division says those who have been identified as close contacts of the confirmed cases have been notified and both schools remain open for in-school classes for those not identified as close contacts.

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health said Wednesday there are now alerts at 167 schools in Alberta and two outbreaks (both in the Calgary Zone). She adds 18 of those cases have been linked to in-school transmission.
