Second Grande Prairie school added to COVID-19 alert list

Jan 22, 2021 | 4:30 PM

A second school in Grande Prairie has been added to the province’s COVID-19 alert list.

Alberta Health has listed Derek Taylor Public School on its alert map, after at least two cases were confirmed at the school over the last week.

The school joins Crystal Park School as the other under such an alert in the Swan City.

Schools are publicly listed as under alert when between two and four cases are confirmed at the school.

“When two or more confirmed cases are identified within the school, public health officials initiate an investigation to monitor risk level and work with the school,” says Alberta Health.

Schools are then classified as an outbreak site once five or more cases are confirmed within a 14 day period.

As of January 22, four schools in Alberta are under an outbreak status, none of which are located in the Peace Region.
