City of Grande Prairie adds one more COVID-19 fatality

The 19th death linked to COVID-19 has been recorded in the City of Grande Prairie Tuesday, while there were 13 new deaths reported by Alberta Health.

The death in Grande Prairie was one of two identified in the North Zone, neither of which was linked to an outbreak site. Both individuals were in their 60’s, a man and a woman.

Alberta has now recorded 1,587 fatalities from COVID-19 complications as of Tuesday.

There were six new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the City of Grande Prairie for January 25, while there were also 15 new recoveries. That drops the active case total to 166 as of the end of day Monday.

Ten recoveries while no new cases were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie on Monday. There are now 44 active cases there.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day January 25 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,119 cases (166 active, 934 recovered, 19 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 337 cases (44 active, 289 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 277 cases (41 active, 235 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Nine cases (two active, seven recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 42 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 15 cases (one active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 109 cases (12 active, 87 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 440 cases (73 active, 359 recovered, eight deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 178 cases (28 active, 150 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 341 cases (46 active, 295 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 56 cases (55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (one active, 104 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 212 cases (13 active, 198 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 71 cases (two active, 69 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 535 cases (33 active, 487 recovered, 15 deaths)

As for cases within long term care facilities in Grande Prairie, Alberta Health says 90 cases have now been linked to the outbreak at Prairie Lake Supportive Living facility. Of those, 38 are active, 47 have recovered and five deaths have been recorded there.

AH adds there have been 63 cases linked to the Grande Prairie Care Centre, 10 of which are active. There have been 47 recoveries and 6 deaths linked to the facility.

There were 366 new cases uncovered in Alberta for Monday following the completion of 8,312 tests, creating a positivity rate of about 4.4 per cent.

There are now 8,652 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, 1,132 of which are in the North Zone.

Hospitalizations continued to decline, totalling 626 as of Monday night, with 108 of those individuals in an ICU.

In the North Zone, 75 people are in hospital with seven of those individuals in an ICU.

A total of 99,814 doses of vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of the end of day Monday.
