COVID-19 cases confirmed at two PWPSD schools

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) says two COVID-19 cases have been identified at two schools.

The first case was identified at Rycroft School, which the infected individual last attended on Friday, January 22. The other confirmed case was an individual at Whispering Ridge Community School, who was last in the school on Wednesday, January 27.

In both cases, school administration learnt of the positive COVID-19 tests on Thursday, January 28, and began reaching out to students and staff who were known to be close contacts of the infected individuals.

Those infected individuals have been ordered to quarantine, while close contacts have also been asked to isolate, monitor themselves for symptoms, and be tested for the novel coronavirus.

The schools remain open for those not identified as a close contact. The PWPSD says both schools have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to ensure a safe learning environment for those returning to class.
