Grande Prairie records 20th COVID-19 death, 15 new cases

The City of Grande Prairie recorded its 20th death linked to COVID-19, along with 15 new cases for Sunday’s update, bringing the active case total in the city to 156.

The death in Grande Prairie occurred on January 28, according to Alberta Health, and was a woman in her 70s linked to the outbreak at Prairie Lake Supportive Living. The case included comorbidities and is the sixth COVID-19 related death reported at the facility.

Alberta Health reported eight new COVID-19 related deaths for Sunday’s update, bringing the province’s death toll to 1,639.

Along with the 15 new cases added in Grande Prairie, there were 16 recoveries. In total, 1,007 people in Grande Prairie have recovered from COVID-19

There were nine new cases reported in the County of Grande Prairie and two recoveries, bringing the active case total in there to 47.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day January 30 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,183 cases (156 active, 1,007 recovered, 20 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 352 cases (47 active, 301 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 291 cases (25 active, 264 recovered, two deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: Nine cases (two active, seven recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 44 cases (two active, 42 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 15 cases (one active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 109 cases (nine active, 90 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 442 cases (32 active, 401 recovered, nine deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 194 cases (33 active, 161 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 359 cases (33 active, 326 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 56 cases (55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (one active, 104 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 216 cases (nine active, 206 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 72 cases (two active, 70 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 556 cases (40 active, 501 recovered, 15 deaths)

Hospitalizations across the province continued to drop on Saturday, dropping to 561 with 101 of those patients in an ICU. In the North Zone, 68 people are in hospital, six of whom are in intensive care.

Alberta Health completed 8,946 tests in the last 24 hours, resulting in a 5.1 per cent test positivity rate. There were 461 new cases recorded for Saturday.

As of January 30, there have been 106,254 COVID-19 vaccines administered in the province.
