Grande Prairie records 21st COVID-19 death, 10 new cases

The City of Grande Prairie recorded its 21st death linked to COVID-19, along with 10 new cases for Monday’s update.

The death was reported by Alberta Health to have occurred on January 30 and was a female in her 80’s linked to the COVID-19 outbreak at the Prairie Lake Supportive Living facility.

The fatality is the seventh to be linked to the outbreak at Prairie Lake. Alberta Health says as of January, a total of 91 cases have been confirmed at the facility. Of, 16 remain active and 68 have recovered, along with the seven deaths.

The death in Grande Prairie was one of 10 new fatalties recorded across the province. In Alberta, 1,649 people have died as a result of COVID-19.

As mentioned above, there were 10 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the City of Grande Prairie, along with 14 recoveries, bringing the active case total in the city down to 151.

Meanwhile, the County of Grande Prairie added five new cases and had four recoveries, bringing their active case total 48.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day January 31 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,193 cases (151 active, 1,021 recovered, 21 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 357 cases (48 active, 305 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 293 cases (27 active, 264 recovered, two deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: Nine cases (two active, seven recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 44 cases (two active, 42 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 15 cases (one active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 109 cases (nine active, 90 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 443 cases (32 active, 402 recovered, nine deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 195 cases (33 active, 161 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 364 cases (36 active, 328 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 56 cases (55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (one active, 104 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 216 cases (eight active, 207 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 72 cases (two active, 70 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 560 cases (43 active, 502 recovered, 15 deaths)

Across the province, hospitalizations continued to drop from 561 to 556, while ICU patients grew slightly by one from 101 to 102.

In the North Zone, 68 people are in hospital and six are in the ICU.

There were 7,294 tests completed over the last 24 hours, resulting in a 4.9 per cent test positivity rate.

As of yesterday, 106,347 Albertans have been vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine, there have been 16,400 Albertans given their second vaccine dose.
