A hold and secure is in place at Ridgevalley School in Crooked Creek as RCMP respond to a situation in the area.

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division says all students and staff are inside the school and safe.

A hold an secure is issued when a response to an unrelated threat and/or incident is in close proximity to the school. School life continues as normal inside the school, however, the precautionary measure to lock doors and prohibit entering/exiting the school is taken to ensure staff and students are safe.

Grande Prairie RCMP say there is a heavy police presence in the area Range Road 262, south to Swan Lake, in response to what they call a public safety complaint.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area and refrain from posting photos and/or video on social media of the ongoing incident.
