Feb 9, 2021 | 4:42 PM

Two new COVID-19 outbreak sites have been announced by Alberta Health in the Grande Prairie area.

Tom McMillan with Alberta Health says an outbreak has been linked to the Shell Gold Creek site near Grande Prairie, where there have been six cases to date. All cases are considered active.

An outbreak has also been listed at the Grande Prairie Council for Lifelong Learning. Seven cases have so far been linked to the facility, with five of those considered active and two recovered.

As for outbreaks linked to continuing care facilities in Grande Prairie, McMillan says a total of 92 cases have been linked to the outbreak at Prairie Lake Supportive Living. Of those, 82 have recovered, three are considered active and seven deaths have been linked to the home.

At the Grande Prairie Care Centre, there have been 65 cases there. Two of those cases are considered active, 57 have recovered and six deaths linked to COVID-19 have occurred.

Alberta Health Services, meanwhile, says a unit at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie has had three cases linked to it, after being first reported on February 1. This follows an outbreak from December 13, 2020, where there were 13 cases.

Outbreaks are publicly announced by Alberta Health when there are two or more cases linked to acute care or continuing care facilities and are declared over after 28 days have passed with no new reported cases of COVID-19.

Outbreaks at sites such as work camps and public settings are announced when there are five or more cases linked to them.
