More cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Grande Prairie area schools.

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division says two new cases have been confirmed in individuals from Whispering Ridge Community School. The division says the individuals were last in the school on Monday, February 8.

It was already listed under Alberta Health’s COVID-19 alert status, as two cases had previously been linked to the school.

The school remains open for in-person learning, and only those people who have been identified as close contacts need to isolate. Anyone identified as a close contact must isolate until at least Tuesday, Feb. 23.

Also Friday, St. Clement School in Grande Prairie was added to the COVID-19 alert list, meaning between two and four cases have been identified within the school.

There are active alerts at 10 Grande Prairie area schools, including Whispering Ridge and St. Clement. Outbreaks, where 10 or more cases had been identified, have been reported at both École Nouvelle Frontière and Hillside Christian School in Grande Prairie.

Not currently under an alert status is Riverstone Public School, which had two cases confirmed there. Families were notified of the new cases on Friday, and the school remains open to all students who have not been identified as a close contact.
