Grande Prairie adds 24 new COVID-19 cases, 11 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 24 new cases of COVID-19 for Monday alongside 11 recoveries, bringing the city’s active case total to 219 as of the end of day Feb. 15. That is the highest active case count recorded in the Swan City during the pandemic.

A number of new outbreaks have also been announced in the city by Alberta Health on Tuesday, including at Rotary House, Walmart, Heritage Lodge Seniors Home and what has been titled as a Private Group Home.

The County of Grande Prairie, meantime, added four new cases and two recoveries, bringing the active case total there to 41 as of the end of day Monday.

Alberta as a whole added 263 new cases of COVID-19, following the completion of 5,216 tests, creating a positivity rate of about five per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day Feb. 15 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,419 cases (219 active, 1,179 recovered, 21 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 404 cases (41 active, 360 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 343 cases (49 active, 292 recovered, two deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (three active, nine recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 46 cases (two active, 44 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 15 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 110 cases (one active, 99 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 460 cases (27 active, 423 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 232 cases (34 active, 198 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 403 cases (37 active, 366 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 57 cases (one active, 55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 231 cases (16 active, 214 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 75 cases (three active, 72 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 601 cases (38 active, 547 recovered, 16 deaths)

Nine deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported by Alberta Health on Tuesday, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,791.

Hospitalizations across Alberta increased by nine from the day prior, totalling 365 as of the end of day Monday. Of those people in hospital, 56 are in intensive care, two less than the day prior.

In the North Zone, hospitalizations increased by two to 47, with only one of those individuals in an ICU.

There have now been 149,138 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Alberta, while 54,024 Albertans have been fully immunized with 2 doses.
