High Prairie RCMP execute more than 100 warrants during initiative

Feb 18, 2021 | 3:06 PM

High Prairie RCMP say they executed over 100 outstanding warrants in the first part of February and recovered drugs, weapons, and stolen vehicles.

The 105 warrants were carried out from February 1 through 15 in High Prairie, Whitefish First Nations and the Peavine, Gift Lake, and East Prairie Metis Settlements as part of what Mounties call a targeted warrant initiative.

Mounties say new charges laid include possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, failure to attend court, and failure to comply with conditions.

“This initiative allows for a number of investigations that have remained stagnant in warrant status to continue before the courts,” says Sgt. Brent Lawson, Operations NCO of High Prairie RCMP in a news release from the detachment.

“High Prairie RCMP will continue to identify and target offenders on outstanding warrants within our community as part of our ongoing crime reduction strategy,”

Besides the charges related to the warrants, two other people are also facing new charges.

Twenty-six-year-old Nathan Carifelle of Peavine is facing 18 new charges that include a dozen weapons counts and obstruction of a peace officer. He has been remanded until appearing in High Prairie court Monday.

Twenty-five-year -old Richard Anderson is facing a pair of weapons charges, along with single counts of obstructing a peace officer and failure to comply with conditions. He has been remanded until appearing in High Prairie court March 1.
