Grande Prairie adds 26 new COVID-19 cases, 13 recoveries

Alberta Health has confirmed 26 new COVID-19 cases were identified in the City of Grande Prairie along with 13 recoveries on Saturday, February 20, bringing the active case count up to 240.

Along with the new cases in the City, there were three new cases added in the County, though they were offset by six recoveries, bringing the active case count there down to 43.

There were also five new cases of the novel coronavirus recorded in the Municipal District of Greenview, where there are now 63 active cases.

Alberta Health also confirms the 11th death in Big Lakes County.

The new numbers come as Alberta Health confirms 328 new COVID-19 cases in the province, and there are now 4,758 active cases in Alberta. Those new cases come as 7,541 tests were administered on Saturday, meaning the positivity rate for the day was 4.3 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day Saturday Feb. 20 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,511 cases (240 active, 1,250 recovered, 21 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 418 cases (43 active, 372 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 365 cases (63 active, 301 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (one active, 11 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 47 cases (three active, 44 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 15 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 110 cases (one active, 99 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 459 cases (14 active, 434 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 241 cases (25 active, 216 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 418 cases (43 active, 375 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 57 cases (one active, 55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 235 cases (15 active, 219 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 85 cases (eight active, 74 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 712 cases (129 active, 567 recovered, 16 deaths)

Figures from Alberta Health shows hospitalizations dropped 15 from the previous day to 321, though intensive care patients did increase by two to 53. Of those patients, 46 are in hospital in the North Zone, one of whom is in intensive care.

Nine more deaths were also reported in the province, bringing Alberta’s COVID-19 death toll up to 1,827. Of those deaths, 131 were recorded in the North Zone.

Alberta Health also reports that nine new cases of the U.K variant have been identified in the province, and there have been 271 cases of the U.K. variant confirmed in Alberta. There have also been seven confirmed cases of the South African variant.

None of the variant cases have been confirmed in the North Zone.

There have now been 169,441 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered in the province, and 66,357 Albertans have received both doses and are considered fully immunized.
