“A great organization that changes people’s lives”: Greenview Reeve pleased with STARS donation

Feb 22, 2021 | 6:00 AM

The Reeve of the MD of Greenview says his municipality is always trying to help the whole region.

Greenview recently announced a $500,000 grant to STARS’ efforts to buy new helicopters.

Dale Smith says having STARS is especially helpful for people who work in industries like energy and forestry.

“It’s a big municipality and so STARS, no matter where you are in the Peace, they provide a life-saving service so that you can get to critical care in a hurry.”

Smith calls STARS “a great organization that changes people’s lives.”

“They’re a great organization. Lots of different community groups and municipal governments all support STARS wholeheartedly. It’s just a great organization.”

Smith says the money is coming from the municipality’s economic development budget.

“That’s how we funnel money into projects like this. It’s part of our economic development platform for Greenview and the region.”

STARS hopes to have all nine of its new choppers in place at all its bases in Alberta, including Grande Prairie, by next year.

The new choppers cost approximately $13 million each.
