The family of a woman who went missing from Grande Prairie is still holding out hope they will get answers and closure into her disappearance – 12 years ago.

Jody Hockett, who also went by the names ‘Jody Smith’, ‘Jodi’ and ‘Jessie’ disappeared on February 22, 2009. She was last seen entering a white vehicle outside of the York Hotel in Grande Prairie.

At the time of her disappearance, Hockett was 33 years old, 5’5″ tall, Caucasian, with dyed strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing jeans, a black zip-up hooded sweater over a tank top, and high-heeled shoes with fur on them.

“During these past 12 years our family has never given up or lost hope that we will receive information regarding Jody’s disappearance,” said Debra Stoner, Jody’s sister

A video, depicting the circumstances around her disappearance, has been created by Crime Stoppers.

“The individuals who were with her kept her phone and purse which to our family was very strange, as Jody never went anywhere without either,” explained Stoner. “She was always in contract with family regardless of where she was.”

The RCMP are continuing to investigate this case, and anyone with information in regards to Smith-Hockett’s disappearance is asked to contact their local police, or Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous.

In the meantime, Stoner says their family will once again light a candle in the window “for her to find her way home”.

“We pray that the individuals who know what happened to Jody will come forward so our family can have closure,” added Stoner. “Jody was a daughter, mother, sister, auntie and friend to many.”

The family has also created a Facebook page as the search for answers continues.
