Grande Prairie adds 14 new COVID-19 cases, 16 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 14 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday while also adding 16 recoveries, lowering the active case total to 232 as of February 22.

The County added two new cases and three recoveries, lowering the active case total there by one to 43.

Fatalities with COVID-19 as a contributing factor now sit at three in the MD of Greenview, as at least one new one was recorded there for Tuesday’s update. There were two deaths reported in the North Zone by Alberta Health on Tuesday, one which occurred on Feb. 19 and was a male in his 80s. The second occurred on Feb. 21 and was a female in her 90s.

Alberta Health had been reporting two deaths in the MD of Greenview as of February 19, before removing one of the deaths for February 20’s update.

The province added 267 new cases for Monday after 6,335 tests were completed. The province’s positivity rate sits at about 4.4 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day Feb. 22 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,535 cases (232 active, 1,282 recovered, 21 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 421 cases (43 active, 375 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 369 cases (54 active, 312 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (one active, 11 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 47 cases (two active, 45 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 110 cases (one active, 99 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 460 cases (11 active, 438 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 245 cases (27 active, 218 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 419 cases (45 active, 374 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 57 cases (one active, 55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 236 cases (13 active, 222 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 84 cases (10 active, 74 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 717 cases (133 active, 568 recovered, 16 deaths)

A total of 11 new fatalities were reported by Alberta Health on Tuesday, raising Alberta’s COVID-19 related death toll to 1,853.

Hospitalizations sat at 326 in Alberta as of Monday night, with 51 of those individuals in an ICU. In the North Zone, there are 41 people in hospital, one of whom is in intensive care.

The province adds a total of 180,755 doses of vaccine have now been administered in Alberta, with 73,718 Albertans now being fully immunized.
